There are two types of breast implants available at Florida Plastic Surgery Group. These are saline filled and silicone filled. Each breast implant has benefits and drawbacks, which you can discuss at length with Dr. Desai during your consultation.

Saline Breast Implants

Saline breast implants are filled with saline, a substance like salt water that occurs naturally in the human body. Because of this, if there is a leak or a rupture, the saline will be safely absorbed into your body with no adverse side effects. You will notice a dramatic deflating of the breast if there is a leak or a rupture – another benefit. A third benefit is that saline breast implants are filled with the liquid after the shell has been placed. As a result, there is a smaller incision made in the breast to place the shell. The implants are then filled once Dr. Desai is satisfied with their placement.

One of the complaints with saline breast implants is that women with thinner frames may notice rippling around the side or edge of the implant, and the implants may not look as natural in women with minimal breast tissue.

Silicone Breast Implants

Silicone implants are a natural looking choice if you are interested in breast augmentation. They are a versatile choice for women of all frame sizes. They come pre-filled from the manufacturer, so a larger incision size is needed. Also, because silicone is more viscous, if there is a rupture or leak in the breast implant, the silicone will stay in the implant shell. This makes it difficult to know that there is a problem with the implant since silicone is not absorbed into the body. Women with silicone implants may be required to have regular MRIs.

The risk of a rupture or leak is slim, and we are sure you will be happy with whichever type of breast implant you have placed.
