Facelift, or rhytidectomy is among the top five most common cosmetic surgical procedures performed in the United States. Commonly, a necklift is performed simultaneously with the goal to rejuvenate the facial appearance and profile. It is not just women who seek these procedures, interestingly with the influence of social media and competitive business environment; an increasing number of candidates are now men.
The goal of a face/neck lift is to improve the visible signs of aging that injectables such as filler or BOTOX® cannot fully address. Often our surgeons at Florida Plastic Surgery Group are asked by patients how can they correct loose skin at the jawline, or jowls; or restore youthful cheekbones as fat descends with age; or correct deep creases along the nasolabial folds or corners of the mouth, or the loose “turkey neck” or muscle bands seen in the neck and the answer typically involves a face/neck lift. There is no one right age for a facelift as everyone ages at different rates. Good candidates for this procedure are non-smokers and patients with realistic expectations that work together with their surgeon to develop a surgical plan tailored to their needs.
What is the difference between types of facelift procedures? Is a QuickLiftTM right for me? Our plastic surgeons, Dr. Ankit Desai, Dr. Michael Fallucco, and Dr. Joseph Parks all believe that to deliver a lasting result the deeper structures of the face and neck must be shaped and not just the skin tightening as is often the case with “lunch-time facelift procedures.” The procedure is most commonly performed under the supervision of a board-certified anesthesiologist as an outpatient, same-day procedure. A supportive post-operative dressing is applied, and bruising may last 7 to 10 days. Commonly, eyelid or browlift surgery may be combined at the same time.
