The buildup of excess fat and/or inelastic skin in the upper neck and under the chin is a very common (and frustrating) condition. It can happen to anyone, even people who are in excellent health and tip-top physical shape. Fortunately, there are numerous treatments available that can effectively address signs of a “double-chin” and create a more defined profile and beautiful new contours in this area.

The plastic surgeons at Florida Plastic Surgery Group offer several treatments to reduce the appearance of a double-chin, including a non-surgical option that can reduce excess fat with a simple injectable procedure. During your initial consultation, our doctor will evaluate your concerns and determine whether a surgical or non-surgical procedure is the most ideal for your needs.

Here are the most popular options at our practice for double-chin reduction:

Non-Surgical

KYBELLA® – One of the most innovative and revolutionary treatments to come along in years, KYBELLA® is a double-chin reduction procedure that involves no surgery of any kind. The treatment can typically be performed in less than 30 minutes and requires little to no recovery time for most patients. The KYBELLA® solution is delicately injected into the target areas, where it should destroy the excess fat cells and begin a process that will filter them out of the body through natural processes. While KYBELLA® has proven to be a very effective treatment for double-chin conditions, it is important to note that this option is usually more ideal for patients who have mild to moderate levels of excess fat under the chin, as well as relatively good skin elasticity. This treatment is also only able to address excess fat; if the problem is being caused by excess skin, KYBELLA® will not be effective.

Surgical

Liposuction – In cases where signs of a double-chin are being caused by a more severe level of fat cells in the upper neck and chin area, liposuction may be a more ideal treatment. Although this is a surgical procedure, the incisions are typically quite small (less than 1 cm), and therefore any residual scarring is often rather inconspicuous. The results of liposuction can provide significant and immediate recontouring of the neck and dramatically enhance definition of the chin.

Neck Lift – A surgical neck lift may be necessary if the appearance of a double-chin is primarily due to excess skin rather than excess fat in the area. Neck lift surgery can remove loose, inelastic skin while tightening the underlying neck muscles. In some cases, liposuction can be performed in tandem with the neck lift if excess fat is also contributing to the concern. The remaining skin will be redraped for a smoother appearance and a sharper contour for the neck and chin. Residual scarring from neck lift surgery is typically well-concealed since the incisions are placed in less prominent areas.

Pricing for KYBELLA® injections starts at about $695 per vial at our practice. If you are a good candidate for KYBELLA®, we can create a personalized treatment plan during your initial consultation here at Florida Plastic Surgery Group. A member of our team will then produce a total cost estimate for your KYBELLA® treatment and answer any questions you may have about our accepted payment methods or financing options that can help qualified applicants pay for their treatment over time.
