Browlift surgery and blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) are two very popular treatments among patients who wish to address signs of age and other common aesthetic concerns in the upper facial areas. While both of these options can produce significant rejuvenating effects and create a more youthful and refreshed look, it’s important to understand the many distinctions between them since they are ultimately designed to achieve very different goals.

A browlift is often recommended for patients who have deep furrows and creases between the eyebrows and/or prominent lines across the forehead. In addition, a browlift can be an ideal option in cases where the brow has descended over time, ultimately causing excess weight over the upper eyelids and producing a constantly tired appearance. In general, browlift surgery can provide smoother skin and a more rested and youthful look in the upper regions of the face.

Eyelid surgery may be advised for individuals who are experiencing excess skin and fat in the eyelids that is causing an excessively fatigued or aged appearance. These concerns can include under-eye “bags” and puffiness, and/or sagging skin in the upper eyelids that not only contributes to aesthetic dissatisfaction, but also may be causing a visual obstruction. Eyelid surgery may be the best option to resolve these concerns, and the procedure can be performed on the upper eyelids, the lower eyelids, or both regions.

Depending on each individual’s unique needs, a browlift or eyelid surgery as a standalone procedure may be the recommended treatment option, or a combination of these treatments might be advantageous. Some patients may even benefit from non-surgical alternatives if they are experiencing milder aesthetic concerns and are not quite ready for a major surgical procedure. The best way to determine the most ideal treatment is to schedule an in-person consultation so our plastic surgeon can evaluate your specific needs and talk with you about your options.
