Restylane®
As we age, our facial skin begins to sag, look hollowed, or develop lines and creases around our eyes and mouth. Many of our patients at Florida Plastic Surgery Group with these concerns tell us that they look older than they feel. These patients often consider a facelift, but for some people, the effects of aging are not yet severe enough to warrant a full surgical procedure. Other patients are only concerned about a few, centralized lines. For either of these situations, you may wish to consider Restylane®.
Effects of Restylane®
Restylane® is a facial filler made with hyaluronic acid, a naturally-occurring agent in your skin. Hyaluronic acid fillers are preferred over collagen-based fillers by many individuals because they:
- Create a smooth skin surface
- Help hydrate the skin
- Replace lost volume to create a younger look
- Reduce and remove lines and wrinkles
- Are a naturally-occurring substance in the skin
Restylane® can be used for men and women who seek to reduce the telltale signs of aging (wrinkled and sagging skin) and create smoother, fuller, more youthful skin. However, you should be aware that facial fillers like Restylane® cannot treat every type of facial aging issue. In cases of severe aging, our doctors may recommend a facelift for men or facelift for women.
While some Restylane® treatments are intended to last 6-9 months on average, Restylane® is the only facial filler approved for treatments intended to last up to one year by the FDA, and many patients find that the benefits of Restylane® last longer.
Ideal Candidate for Restylane®
Restylane® is ideal for patients who:
- Have laugh lines or crow’s feet
- Have lines around their mouth and nose
- Show minor effects of aging
- Are allergic to collagen
- Would like to increase the volume of their skin
Restylane® Procedure
The procedure for using Restylane® is much like many other fillers available, such as JUVÉDERM®. Our doctors will inject small amounts of Restylane® gel under your skin to fill in creases and lines and to restore the resilient appearance of your skin. Rather than creating a stiff look, this treatment offers a natural-appearing wrinkle reduction with results that are immediately visible and allow you to return to your regular daily activities almost immediately.
