What is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy?

Platelet Rich Plasma therapy is an innovative technique that utilizes components of your own blood to help rejuvenate the appearance of your skin. Platelets in the blood are vital for the natural healing processes, and they are also known to aid in the stimulation of healthy skin growth. By taking a small amount of blood and removing the red blood cells, the remaining platelet rich plasma can be used to repair soft tissues and promote natural skin rejuvenation. PRP therapy been used for many years in treatments for musculoskeletal injuries. More recently, this technique has shown to be highly effective in aesthetic procedures, as well.

What are the benefits of ProCell™ and PRP Therapy?

The combination of ProCell™ microneedling and PRP therapy offers numerous benefits for many patients who are trying to renew their facial appearance, including:

  • Reduction in signs of wrinkles and fine lines
  • Reduction in the appearance of large pores
  • Reduction in the appearance of mild acne scars
  • Improved tone and texture
  • Healthier, more refreshed-looking skin

What does the ProCell™ with PRP procedure involve?

The ProCell™ with PRP treatment can be performed right here in our office, and takes about an hour to complete. First, we will draw some blood – only one vial is usually necessary, depending on the extent of treatment. The blood will then be placed in a centrifuge to separate the platelet rich plasma, which will be extracted and prepared for the next stage of the treatment. The PRP will be topically applied to the targeted areas of skin, and then the ProCell™ microneedling device will be guided over this area. The ProCell™ pen will make very small punctures in the skin, ultimately creating tiny channels that can absorb the PRP. A topical numbing solution is utilized to enhance comfort during the procedure. After the microneedling is complete, another layer of PRP will be applied. Ultimately, the ProCell™ with PRP treatment process helps the skin to repair itself in the treatment area and stimulate the growth of elastin and collagen, aiding in the development of healthier skin cells and leading to an appearance that looks more youthful and refreshed.

ProCell™ with PRP therapy does not generally require excessive recovery times. In fact, many individuals are able to return to normal daily activities on the same day of treatment. Patients can expect some degree of redness and possible swelling in the treatment areas, which should fade within a few days. A series of treatment sessions spaced over several weeks may be necessary to create the best possible results.
