There are many types of lasers on the market. The most common categories are non-ablative and ablative lasers, which can be in the fractionated or unfractionated form. Non-ablative lasers are less abrasive on the skin, but not generally as effective at skin resurfacing as ablative lasers. When the lasers are fractionated it increases the number of treatments that may be required, but it lessens the overall recovery and downtime. The greatest recovery is associated with the ablative lasers, which most often produce the greatest results when compared to other types of lasers.

Chemical peels are often offered at MedSpas, dermatology, and plastic surgery offices. It is a topical solution that is applied to the face, resulting in the top layer of the skin to peel away leaving a smoother skin appearance. This is really reserved for those who do not require intensive skin treatment for pigmentation, scarring, or photodamage. The recovery is often fairly quick with little downtime, but the results are typically not significant.

Micro-needling is also referred to as skin needling or Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT). This advance aesthetic technique is performed by puncturing the skin with mirco-sized sterile needles, which create micro channels, thereby stimulating the body to produce new tissue and collagen leading to tighter and more firm skin. Patients can expects some mild redness for 12-48 hours following the procedure with minimal to no discomfort. Initial results are typically seen after two treatments, more significant results are seen after 4-6 treatments, and you will continue to have collagen remolding between 6-12 months following the procedure. We have selected to offer COSMOPen, a micro-needling therapy, for our patients seeking skin resurfacing and facial rejuvenation. It produces excellent results after several treatments and it is easily tolerated by most patients with minimal recovery when compared to laser therapy.

Here at Florida Plastic Surgery Group we offer free consultations for COSMOPEN micro-needling therapy and we look forward to further discussing it with you!  Contact us today to schedule your consultation!
