Lip Augmentation

For patients with flat lips, lip enhancement / augmentation can provide a fuller, rejuvenated appearance. In addition, lip enhancement can also improve the fine wrinkles seen around both the upper and lower lips. Your lips can be enhanced to create a subtle change or lips that appear more dramatic, sexy, and pouty.

Lip enhancement is performed by injecting a natural or synthetic bio-compatible material. Proper placement of the material is important and generally only one treatment is necessary. Depending on the material used, the result may be temporary or permanent.

Patients can return to their normal activities the day following most lip enhancement techniques. Some minor swelling or bruising resolves quickly. There are currently a number of options available to patients desiring lip enhancement.

Our facial plastic surgery team will help you decide which material best suits your needs. At Florida Plastic Surgery Group, we believe that our patients, their desires, and their anatomy are all unique. Therefore, our doctors carefully evaluate each patient to create a customized surgical plan.

Restylane® / JUVÉDERM® Lip Enhancement

Both JUVÉDERM® and Restylane® are hyaluronic acid fillers used for non-surgical rejuvenation of the face. These fillers are temporary and may be the ideal fillers for patients wanting to try lip enhancement, but are unsure whether they want a permanent effect. These fillers generally last 6-9 months.

Radiesse® Lip Enhancement

Radiesse® consists of smooth calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) microspheres that are suspended in a water-based gel to stimulate the body’s production of collagen. Radiesse must be injected carefully to prevent clumping or abnormal deposits. The results of this procedure typically last approximately 1 year.

AlloDerm® Lip Enhancement

AlloDerm® consists of acellular human cadaveric dermis and is placed through two small incisions to create fuller lips. Since all the cells from the donor tissue are removed, there is no rejection associated with the use of AllodDerm®. The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis and the recovery time lasts 5-7 days. Although the cost for AlloDerm® lip augmentation is higher due to the cost of the product, the results can be permanent.

Fat Grafting Lip Enhancement

Fat grafting is an exciting technique for both soft-tissue defects and facial rejuvenation. Fat grafting lip enhancement is performed by carefully harvesting fat from your abdomen or hips. The fat is then delicately processed to isolate your own body’s fat cells. These fat cells are then injected into the proper plane of your lips to create a fuller look. Some overcorrection is required as not all of the fat will survive and occasionally a second round of injections are required for a permanent effect.

Lip augmentation is gaining popularity because it gives women and men the fuller, more voluptuous lips they have always wanted. If you would like to learn more about lip augmentation, please contact us today.
