Many steps go into preparing for a facelift surgery. The more prepared you are, the easier the process will be. Once you choose your plastic surgeon, you will have an initial visit in the office for your consultation to discuss your facelift. Be prepared to answer questions such as:

  • medical history (past surgeries, medical conditions, family medical history)
  • current medication list (including herbal supplements and over the counter medicines)

During your consultation with Dr. Desai, Dr. Fallucco, or Dr. Parks, they will perform a physical exam on you. At this time you will have the opportunity to discuss the areas on your face that bother you and what you would like to see for improvements. Your surgeon will explain to you what he believes the best treatment option will be and help you to understand what realistic results to expect from the procedure.

Unless otherwise instructed, two weeks before your facelift surgery you will need to stop taking any NSAIDS (aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen) and herbal supplements. These medications could thin your blood and increase your chance of bleeding.

At your pre-op appointment, you will be given Arnica, an herbal supplement. You will start taking this at least four days before surgery. The purpose of taking Arnica is to reduce the amount of bruising and swelling after surgery. You also receive prescriptions for antibiotics and pain medications. You will be instructed to have these filled before the date of your surgery.

The night before surgery you will want to shower and wash your hair. You will be reminded not to eat or drink anything past midnight up until the time of your surgery.  Be sure to have a caretaker lined up for after the procedure. You will be required to be sent home with a responsible adult that will take care of you for at least the first 24 hours after surgery.

At Florida Plastic Surgery Group, your additional questions and details are discussed both in your consultation, surgery scheduling, and pre-operative appointment sessions. Our focus is on keeping our patients educated, organized, and safe for their upcoming surgery.
