Mid-Face Lift

A mid-face or cheek lift is a surgical procedure that improves the appearance of the nasolabial folds and cheeks. As we age, the fat overlying the cheek (called the malar fat pad) descends. As a result, patients experience a flattened appearance to the cheek, more prominent nasolabial folds, and drooping of the corners of the mouth. A mid-face lift will re-elevate the malar fat pad to restore lost volume to your cheeks, decrease the appearance of nasolabial folds, and lift the corners of the mouth.

There are a number of different ways to perform a mid-face lift (see below for more information). Our cosmetic surgery team will help you decide which technique best suits your needs. Since our plastic surgeons in Jacksonville believe that our patients, their desires, and their anatomy are all unique, they evaluate each patient to create customized surgical plans.

Minimally Invasive Mid-Face Suspension (MIMS Procedure)

Through a small incision (2-3 cm) behind the hairline, our cosmetic surgery team will elevate the malar fat pad and restore the natural, full appearance of your cheeks without any scars on the face. The procedure takes about 1 hour and the recovery is much shorter than more invasive mid-face lift procedures (i.e. 7-10 days). The MIMS procedure is performed under local anesthesia and patients can return home the same day.

Mid-Face Lift with Face Lift

Using the same incision utilized in a facelift (i.e. around the contour of the ear), the malar fat pad can also be elevated. This procedure is typically done as part of a complete Facial Enhancement package. To learn more about this package, please contact our Jacksonville cosmetic surgery team.

Mid-Face Lift with Lower Eyelid Surgery / Blepharoplasty

While performing lower eyelid surgery, the malar fat pad can also be elevated through the incision along the lash line. The incision heals with an inconspicuous scar and the elevation of the malar fat pad not only improves the cheeks, nasolabial folds, and corners of the mouth, but also improves the bags and tear troughs around the eyes.

Preparing for Your Mid-Face Lift

Who is a candidate for mid-face lift?
Men and women of all ages with flattened cheeks, prominent folds around their cheeks (nasolabial folds), and the constant appearance of a frown around their mouths are candidates for a mid-face lift.

How do I prepare for my mid-face lift?
If there are smaller fine wrinkles around your eyes or corners of your mouth, you may benefit from adding a skin care line such as the Obagi Nu-Derm® System to enhance your results and keep you looking young and rested.

Recovering After Your Mid-Face Lift

The mild pain associated with a mid-face lift is generally well-controlled with oral pain medications and usually improves in the first few days. Patients may have bruising around their cheeks, but any bruising resolves within 1-2 weeks. In addition, patients may feel some tightness around their cheeks and mouth that dissipates as the tissues settle and heal.

A mid-face (or cheek) lift is a very popular procedure that improves the appearance of nasolabial folds and cheeks. Please contact our office today to schedule an initial consultation.
